San Diego County jails and detention facilities

We post bail at every facility below, 24 hours a day. If you are not sure where your family member is, give us their full name and date of birth and we will find them.

  • San Diego Central Jail

Address: 1173 Front Street, San Diego, CA 92101

The county's highest-volume intake facility for adult men, next to the downtown courthouse complex. Booking and release volume is heavy, so release after a bond is posted can take longer here than at smaller facilities.

Typically serves: Downtown San Diego and most central-city arrests

  • Vista Detention Facility

Address: 325 S Melrose Drive, Vista, CA 92081

North County's main intake facility, sharing a campus with the North County Regional Center courthouse. It is minutes from our Vista office, so we can often be there quickly after your call.

Typically serves: Vista, Oceanside, Carlsbad, San Marcos, Escondido, Encinitas

  • George Bailey Detention Facility

Address: 446 Alta Road, San Diego, CA 92158

A large Otay Mesa facility used for longer-term custody and transfers rather than first booking. People are frequently moved here from Central Jail after arraignment.

Typically serves: County-wide housing and transfers

  • Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility

Address: 451 Riverview Parkway, Santee, CA 92071

The county's facility for women, handling both intake and longer-term custody with reentry programming on site.

Typically serves: Women arrested anywhere in San Diego County

  • South Bay Detention Facility

Address: 500 Third Avenue, Chula Vista, CA 91910

South County intake facility attached to the South County Regional Center courthouse, used for arrests near the border communities.

Typically serves: Chula Vista, National City, Imperial Beach, San Ysidro

  • East Mesa Reentry Facility

Address: 446 Alta Road, San Diego, CA 92158

An Otay Mesa reentry facility for sentenced individuals. Bail is rarely at issue here, but people are sometimes housed at this address after transfer.

    Typically serves: County-wide sentenced housing

San Diego County criminal courthouses

Court location follows the arrest location, and the courthouse listed on the release paperwork controls the first appearance. Missing that date forfeits the bond, so confirm it before you leave the jail.

  • San Diego Central Courthouse

1100 Union Street, San Diego, CA 92101

Criminal arraignments and felony proceedings for central San Diego, across from Central Jail.

  • North County Regional Center

    325 S Melrose Drive, Vista, CA 92081

The Vista courthouse handling North County criminal cases, on the same campus as Vista Detention Facility.

  • East County Regional Center

250 E Main Street, El Cajon, CA 92020

Criminal calendars for El Cajon, Santee, La Mesa, Lakeside, and East County.

  • South County Regional Center

500 Third Avenue, Chula Vista, CA 91910

Criminal calendars for Chula Vista, National City, and the South Bay, adjacent to South Bay Detention Facility.

  • Kearny Mesa Courthouse

8950 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92123

Traffic and certain misdemeanor calendars for the central county.

  • Juvenile Court (Meadow Lark)

2851 Meadow Lark Drive, San Diego, CA 92123

Juvenile delinquency and dependency matters. Juvenile detention works differently from adult bail — call us and we will explain what applies.

Before you go to a jail or courthouse

  • Confirm booking is complete

Bail generally cannot be posted until booking finishes and the bail amount appears in the system. We check this for you so nobody drives to a facility too early.

  • Check for holds

A probation, parole, immigration, out-of-county, or PC 1275 hold can block release even after a bond is posted. We identify holds before you spend anything.

  • Bring valid photo ID

Both jails and courthouses require government-issued photo identification for visitors and for anyone signing paperwork on site.

  • Verify hours and rules first

Visiting hours, property release procedures, and courthouse security rules change. Verify with the Sheriff's Office or the court before traveling.

Directory questions

How do I find out which jail someone is in?
Call 760-383-0000 with the person's full name and date of birth. We check the county system and confirm the facility, booking status, charges, and bail amount, usually within minutes.
Can you post bail at any San Diego County jail?
Yes. We post at San Diego Central Jail, Vista, George Bailey, Las Colinas, South Bay, and the county's other facilities, 24 hours a day including weekends and holidays.
Which courthouse will the case be heard in?
Generally the regional courthouse covering the arrest location — for example North County Regional Center in Vista for a Vista or Oceanside arrest. The release paperwork lists the date and location.
How long does release take at each facility?
It varies with the facility's workload. Smaller North County facilities often release faster than downtown Central Jail, where intake volume is highest.
